MacDONALD, Donald Bernard "Bernie" – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our amazing husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. At age 85 Donald Bernard "Bernie" MacDonald of Port Hawkesbury and formerly of Long Point, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston surrounded by his loving wife Marion and daughter Alana. He was the son of late James Allan and Mary (MacMaster) MacDonald. Leaving behind his wife of 54 years, Marion (Totten); daughter, Alana (Peter) and their 2 girls (grandchildren) Emma and Kora who were his pride and joy, who made him move more, laugh more, swim for the first time in his life and play like there was nothing that could stop him. Also surviving are his siblings, Kathleen, Margaret (John), Clare (Lawrence), Gladys, Donnie, Anne Marie, Lloyd (Bernadette), Edward (Raylene); sister-in-law, Grace; brother-in-law, Joe (Caddy); as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Frank; brothers-in-law, Vince, Harold and Earle. Dad was very proud of his roots. He was from Long Point and down North was God’s Country to him. He loved anything Toronto, whether it was the Blue Jays or his Maple Leaf’s. He loved the Ceilidh’s music, not that he could paly a note. In the early years he fished with his dad and to this day he checked to see if the lobsters were good. He loved fishing with his girls. Next to his girls he loved his cards, which was the first thing he wanted to play with whoever came into the house or down at the hall. He liked his BINGO games and loved his trips up to see his girls in Ottawa. He worked with various construction companies. Whoever he was working for and whatever he was doing he always said that "it’s always a good day as long as you’re working." Although this loss brings us to tears, in our hearts we are honored to have known him. Such a strong man who overcame such adversities, so loving and caring and always a call away. A special thank you to the Strait Richmond Hospital nurses and staff for taking such good care of my dad when we couldn’t. And I thank my family who have come every time either my parents or myself have called you to help. I do not know what I would do without you!
