Conway, Annie Elizabeth "Betty" (Conrad) - Whitehead, Guysborough Co. It is with deep sadness and peace that we announce the passing of Annie Elizabeth "Betty" Conway (Conrad) of Whitehead, on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Milford Haven Nursing Home in Guysborough.
Born in Lower White Haven on February 22, 1931, Betty lived a life of selfless devotion, where her love was felt by taking the simplest of things and making them feel so special. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Betty worked tirelessly for 30+ years as a Lighthouse Keeper’s wife on White Head Island beside her beloved, darling husband, Sonny. With all her love and diligence, she taught all of her 7 children their school lessons, baking them the world’s best pies, bread and biscuits, while always singing a catchy song or whistling a tune.
She was a self-taught organist, who played for her church as a young girl and loved to sing. She had a talent for taking any word or phrase and turning it into a fun melody to the delight of her grandchildren and children.
She loved to share a delicious meal or a cup of tea on the island with her many boarders and anyone who graced her kitchen table. With her infectious smile, laugh and sharp wit, she loved to work and was rarely idle. Whether challenging someone to a spirited scrabble game, the thousands and thousands of miles she walked, or baking a favorite treat for her grandchildren, Betty loved to keep active and creative. Betty’s devotion to her family began as early as grade 1, when a handsome young boy asked to borrow her red crayon. With that chance meeting, Betty and Sonny built a life and love the envy of many and will be united for eternity.
Betty is survived by her children, Carmen (Kathy), Hazel Hill; Vera Rhynold (Phillip), Antigonish; Lori Boudreau, Port Felix; Patrick (Marina), Whitehead; Cathy (Brad), Moncton; son-in-law Thomas Jelleau, Whitehead; as well as her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her sister Helen MacLeod, Halifax. Betty will be reunited with her one true love, Mark Wilfred Patrick "Sonny"; her daughter, Lynn Jelleau; her son, Mark; and infant children, Joseph and Susan; her parents, Annie (Carley) and Robert, her siblings, Marguerite (Rizzo), William, Allison, Alice (Powell), James, Robert, Lillian (Rhynold), Fraser and an infant brother Carmen .
