MACDONALD, JOHN MAURICE "ANGUS" – Canso, Age 73. It is with great sadness that the family of John Maurice "Angus" MacDonald announce his passing on Friday, March 26, 2021 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born on March 20, 1948 in Guysborough to the Late Joseph and Lillian (Fougere) MacDonald. The thunder roared and lightning struck as the Pearly Gates opened up on March 26th to welcome our father, partner, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Best known to his family and friends as Angus, he was a devoted Toronto Maple Leaf Fan who lived a very blue and white life. He had the privilege to attend a game of his favourite team with the "apple of his eye" daughter Yvonne where he met and received an autograph of the Late Walter Gretzky. Angus was a member of the Canadian Coast Guard in 1967. He was part of the crew to take the voyage on the CGS John A MacDonald which transited the Northwest Passage from East to West returning to Halifax via Panama Canal. Since 1967 he was employed by several fish processing companies including Acadia Fisheries, HB Nickerson, National Sea Products, Canso Seafoods Ltd and G & C Fish Handlers. He was a former member of the Canso Volunteer Fire Department. Angus enjoyed playing hockey and was such a gentleman doing so (wink, wink); He played on the local Highliners team. He also played fastball on the Antigonish Ashdale, Canso Legionnaires, and Canso Athletics teams. He was a big fan of the Canso Bluefins and sporting his Acadia attire representing his grandson’s hockey teams. Angus was happiest spending time at his camp "Gilligan’s Island" and hosting his very own shed parties with all his friends and family. He enjoyed boating and would be seen travelling with his late furry friend Tie and recently driving his truck with his new furry buddy Wendel. Angus never missed presenting his five sisters, whom he loved dearly, with lobsters on Mother’s Day and Christmas wreaths at Christmas time. You never tasted fish & chips until you had his. Angus is survived by his best friend and loving partner of 40 years, Theresa Casey, daughter and "Daddy’s Little Girl", Yvonne, Port Hawkesbury; son, Joey (Lynn), Kentville; cherished grandsons, Aidan and Brody; brother, Clair (Marlaine), Little Dover; sisters, Geraldine Sanderson, Dominion; Barbara MacLean, Canso; Florence (Eddie) Garcia, Hazel Hill; Anne (George) Murphy, Canso; Kate (Joe) Jamieson, Guysborough; special cousin, Brian Fougere, Mahone Bay; mother in-law, Eileen Casey, Canso Seaside Manor; sisters in-law, Ann Marie Rhynold, Hazel Hill; Shirley (Ira) Nunn, Hazel Hill; Sheila (Tony) Kolanko, Big Pond; Joan (John) Collings, Sydney and several nieces and nephews whom he held close to his heart. Besides his parents he was predeceased by son, Joseph Maurice in infancy, and brothers, Bernard and Joseph. The family would like to thank the staff of the Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso, Dr. Chris Milburn, Dr. Luke Dobek and a very special thank you to his family physician Dr. Cathy Felderhof and palliative care nurse, Rhonda Bennett.
