Obituary
Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On March 1, 2021, Ronald "Ron" Patrick Haines of Little Dover, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully holding the hands of those he loved the most. Ronald was born in the village of Little Dover, Guysborough Co., on April 21, 1939. He was the son of the late Alfred and Catherine (David) Haines.
Born with salt water running through his veins, Ron became a Captain at the young age of 15 when he began his career as a lobster and ground fisherman. After 65 years at the age of 80, Ron fished his last lobster season as alongside his nephew and great friend, Darren Haines.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman, from deer hunting and rabbit snaring this past fall, to setting eel pots and enjoying mackerel fishing in the summer. He was full of life and certainly lived his own to the fullest. He had a kind soul and would greet everyone with his contagious smile.
Having a passion for music, Ron would often spend his evenings strumming his guitar and serenading his wife in a quiet toned melody. "Their own Johnny Cash", Ron would be most content doing the same for his granddaughter and later his great-grandson.
He will be gravely missed by the Apple of His Eye and wife of 56 years, Peggy (Boudreau) Haines; son, Chester Haines (Carol and step daughters, Gabby and Alyssa and step granddaughter, Nora Sharp); sole grandchild, Candace Haines (Mike Comeau) and sole great-grandchild and Puppy’s Pride and Joy, Dex Comeau. He is also survived by brothers, Tom, Lloyd, Manzer (Anna), Duffield (Rhoda); sisters, Isabelle, Tena, Garnet (Gordon); as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Sheldon Haines; brothers, Malcolm and John; sisters, Margaret, Amanda and Leona.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU and PCU nursing, physicians and support staff of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Especially his own special nurse, Sarah George who loved him unconditionally like her own grandfather.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, April 21 at 11 a.m. in the Little Dover Community Hall. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
