Obituary
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cameron, John "Clarence" - Age 79 of Port Hood. It is with sadness that we announce the death of Clarence who passed away at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 with his family by his side. He was a son of the late John Cameron and Edith Matilda (Fraser) Cameron.
Clarence was raised on a beautiful farm on Dunmore Road. Until recently he was seen making a daily trek out that familiar road. He started working at the pulp mill in Point Tupper March 1962 where he was a labourer, woodyard operator and in the shop of the Maintenance Department. He travelled to the pulp mill in a van with fellow workers who became lifelong friends. He retired in March of 1998. He was a trustee and an elder at St. Stephen’s-Jubilee United Church and served as a board member of the Union Protestant Cemetery. He was a proud volunteer fire fighter of the Port Hood & Area Fire Department for over 57 years. Clarence was an avid card player and missed the card plays when they were cancelled during Covid times. He was a strong supporter of community events and seldom missed a dinner or bake sale. He was always interested in his community and was good to visit his relatives and friends particularly those in need. He attended musical events from Cheticamp to Judique, and he taught many to square dance. The highlight of his year would be when he and Marie travelled to Florida in the winter months. Clarence kept up to date on the news but a story with a good laugh was the best.
Clarence is survived by his devoted wife, Marie (MacDonald) ; daughter, Tina (George), Port Hastings; grandchildren, Amanda (Bernie) Mac Donald, Port Hood; Tyson Mac Donald, Port Hood; sister, Jean Langley, Port Hawkesbury; nieces, Janice Langille, Port Hood; Arlene Bussey, Port Hawkesbury; Debora Langley, Fort McMurray; grand nieces Rebecca, Sarah, Jessica Bussey, Halifax; Laura Langille, Port Hood; Leeanne Langille, Port Hood; Alyson Langley, Fort McMurrary. He was predeceased by parents, John and Edith Cameron; brother, Gary Cameron; great-grandchild, Jacob Morrison and brother-in-law, Jimmy "Nick" Langley.
We would like to thank all those who cared for Clarence over the years and most recently the staff at ICMH and the Palliative care team.
