MacDonnell, Phyllis Elizabeth (Scanlan) – Age 85 years of Walkerville, Richmond County. It is with deep sadness that the family of Phyllis MacDonnell announce her passing on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Centre, Arichat. Born on September 19, 1935 in Walkerville, she was the daughter of the Late Joseph and Louise (Poirier) Scanlan. Phyllis was a loving wife, homemaker, a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a friend to many. She loved sitting down with friends for a good cup of tea, spending time with her family, playing bingo, playing cards, baking as she was well known for her lemon pie and biscuits. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Hughie; sons, Joe (Mary), Glen (Darlene); daughters, Brenda (Frank) and Rhonda (Anthony); grandchildren, Joel (Shallyn), Josh, Nicole, Chad (Candace) and Shelly; Great grandchildren, Ava, Jayden, Madison, Leland, Luke, Lanie, Dallas, Christian; sister, Sheila Scanlan; brother, Elmer (Delima) Scanlan; sister in law, Carmel Scanlan, many nieces and nephews, cousins, sister and brother in laws. Besides her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her brother, Joseph "Junior". The family would like to thank all the doctor’s and nurses of St. Ann’s Centre for all the excellent care over the past two years. Also, a special thanks to Bernadette Forgeron for her kindness shown to Mom over the last number of years. A celebration of Mom’s life will take place on Friday, January 15, at 11 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Whiteside. All attendees will be asked to provide their names and telephone numbers upon arrival at the church. Seating is limited. Social distancing protocols are to be followed and masks are mandatory. Donations may be made to St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Centre, St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fund or a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
