My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Martell family on the loss of your dear and sweet mother, daughter, sister and friend. I first met Alayne when she coached my daughter Michelle at Bedford Ringette with Tracey Tulloch and what a duo they were and what fun the kids had. We would always bump into Alayne at the Ringette Nationals every year and you could always count on having a good laugh with her. A beautiful soul gone way to soon. May the memories you share and the love of family and friends get you through this most difficult time. Linda, Ozzie, Erin and Michelle

I am very saddened to hear of Alayne's passing. Our paths crossed on the business side of Ringette. Over the years we met at National and International events, and to meet Alayne one felt instantly at ease, welcomed, a friend. Those meetups, and phone conversations over the years touched, not only on Ringette, but also children, family, careers, education. Always comfortable, free-flowing, straightforward conversations - what you'd expect of a friend. And always with a smile. It was truly an honour to know her. May you find strength in memories that will live forever. With deepest condolences to your families.

There are people in our lives some of whom we've had a lifetime to get to know and love. Then there are people who blow into our lives and it's like they have always been there. They just fit! Perfectly! You are instantly changed and you know you cannot ever be without them. That was Alayne for me. We met through a mutual friend and immediately said "Why in the fuck were we not friends before now!" Ironically Alayne and I are the same same age, know 100s of mutual people and grew up less than 20 minutes away from each other. But the time lost didn't bother us any. It was an instant connection and one which we felt safe to laugh uncontrollably with or bare our deepest secrets. There was no judgment though we often joked that we judged everyone equally. Lol. It was easy. We routinely laughed to the point of losing our breath or spitting out drinks! We laughed about the funniest things and most inappropriate things and often at the most inappropriate times. But laugh we did! Perhaps what was I loved so much about Alayne was her realness. Her ability to tell it like it is. Usually with no sugar coating! Her ability to laugh and make jokes but also the ability to talk about hard things. While she was all about laugher and fun, Alayne also had the ability to be very deep. I guess we are similar in that regard. She was the full package! Kind, loving, caring, funny, thoughtful, inappropriate, sarcastic and dripping with love!! I sometimes think her soul mission in life was to bring smiles to the faces of others. She did love to laugh!!!! I will miss your beautiful face, infectious laugh, sharp sense of humour and your kind heart. Rest easy my baby muffin lover who is an angel!!! #wearenotforeveryonebutweareforeachother

It is with all of my heart that I express my sympathies to Alayne's family. I knew Alayne in her Ottawa days and was always blown away by her wit and humour. My heart is broken but in no way does this measure up to your loss. She was one of a kind and we were blessed to have known her.

Alayne was a light to so many of us and while she is no longer with us, we will share so many memories of her in our hearts. She was foolish and ridiculous and playful and a kid at heart, which was why all of the cool kids wanted to play with her. She was also insightful, reflective, loving, generous and wise. She gave more of herself than was often advisable and was willing to take risks to help others around her. Thank you for sharing her with us for all of these years. Molly, we see so much of that magical spirit in you and we know that she was so proud of who you are and the excellent human you are becoming. We are sending virtual love and hugs in the hope that it might lighten your heavy hearts. The only consolation I have been able to find in all of this is that she can finally rest and not take any more pills and meds, and that she has reunited with Lester, Claude and Susan. All of our love. The Tulloch Family

I am so sorry to have heard the sad news of Alayne's passing. The last year took a huge toll on her, physically and emotionally. She fought the good fight, had lots of professionals that tried everything, and a special thanks to her bone marrow donor. Unfortunately her body just could not take it any longer and she handed her life over to the Lord. May her soul be reunited with her beloved father, Lester and much loved and never forgotten brother, Claude. To all her family who are still with us, especially my cousins, her mom, Carolyn and brother Blaire, and daughter Molly our thoughts and prayers are with you today and in the days ahead. May the love and support of family and friends comfort you as you grieve this huge loss. May you also be comforted knowing dear Alayne is resting safely in the arms of her Lord.
