MacDougall, Margaret Ethel "Marg" - Age 89 years. Hazel Hill, Guysborough Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Ethel MacDougall of Hazel Hill, Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at the age of 89. Born on September 30, 1931 she was the 3rd of 7 children born to James and Violet (Strachan) MacDougall. Beloved last matriarch of her generation, Marg was a staunch supporter of her hometown community, having served as Town Clerk of Canso for almost 30 years, retiring in 1992. She continued to volunteer as a member of the Guysborough & Area Business Development Corporation, the Canso Cable Historical Society and the Canso Medical Centre, until earlier this year, as well as volunteering with tax preparation for many in her community. In retirement, she enjoyed extensive travels with her life-long friends, Sybil and Betty. A favorite memory was a cross-Canada VIA Rail trip with her sister to celebrate her retirement. The door to her home was always open and her wise counsel, strong opinions and loving support will be missed. Special thanks to her niece, Chrissie Jerrott, and those dear friends who supported Marg so well when needed. Marg was pre-deceased by her daughter, Kerry (Lyle) MacDonald-Gautier as well as her brothers and sisters, Mary, Marion, James, Anne, Helen (Sam) and William (Hughie). She is survived by her beloved grandson, Rory (Ottawa), as well as 3 generations of nieces and nephews and close cousins. All of these she loved and touched deeply. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, November 4th, from 6-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be held in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, on Thursday, November 5th at 11a.m. with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. In keeping with Covid-19 guidelines, all attendees will be asked to provide their names and telephone numbers upon arrival at the funeral home and the church.
