Obituary
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bolger, John Patrick - Port Hawkesbury, Age 63. It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend, John Patrick Bolger. A man who could bicker with a parson whilst washing the feet of a pauper; his soul was his own.
After high school graduation he attended Acadia University, then returned to Port Hawkesbury to have a life-long career which he enjoyed greatly for 40+ years at the Pulp mill in Point Tupper. He had so many wonderful friends at work…kind people who helped him get through the past year after losing Dawna. He appreciated and loved you all very much.
Johnny was born in Antigonish on July 5, 1957 and was the eldest child of Patrick and the late Marie (MacDonald) Bolger. He was raised in Point Tupper and later moved to Port Hawkesbury.
A good friend described John; " Johnny was a fixture in our lives from the time we were young, and I remember as kids he would go missing and we always knew where to find him; stretched out on his bed reading. He was just like his mom for his love of books. Some would come to the door and then there were those who came through the window".
John was an avid Hab’s and Expos fan and by all that knew him, a true academic.
He is survived by his father and best friend, Patrick; his beautiful Uncle Jack; "sister/cousin" Patty (Mike) Garrity, Chicago; George; Tim (Ottawa); Maureen (Danny) DeMone; Cullen; Michael.
Nieces and Nephews, Conor, Flannery, Amanda, Patrick, Sam, Mike, Liam, and Jane as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins spread far and wide.
John was predeceased by his adored mother, Marie; his second mother, Aunt Colleen; and his Fiancé and Love, Dawna.
Johnny will be waked in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury on Monday, April 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating.
