CAMPBELL, Anna Yvonne "Yvonne" —(1920 - 2009). 89, of Johnstown, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, in Richmond Villa, St. Peters. Born in Lingan, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Gallant) Cummings. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Johnstown and was a long-time member of the CWL. Yvonne liked to play cards with neighbors and friends; bridge, cribbage, and 45s were among her favorite games. Yvonne graduated from Normal College in Truro and began teaching in 1938. She then studied nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital in Glace Bay and taught nursing for a period of time. After moving to Johnstown, she started her family with Harry and went back to teaching for the next 25 years. During that time, she also managed Johnstown Credit Union for nine years and then served on the Board of Directors' for many more. Yvonne is survived by daughters, Mary Anita (George) Gerrior, Johnstown; Vivian (Don), Halifax; sons, Joe (Pat), Halifax; Michael (Margie), Johnstown; brother, Greg (Zel) Cummings; sister, Etheleen, Halifax; sister-in-law, Anna, New Waterford. She loved, and will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Yvette (Ashley), Greg, Andrea, Christopher, Amanda, Matthew, Andrew, Peter and Kevin, and her great-granddaughters, Madeleine and Georgia. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; sisters, Sister Ann Marie (CSM) and Rita; brothers, Raymond and Patrick. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes Ltd. 26 Centennial St., St. Peter's. Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Church, Johnstown with Father Joe Gillis officiating followed by burial in the parish cemetery.
