Bush (Bos), Maria - 86, Canso, passed away peacefully in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso, on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. She was a daughter of the late Hendrik and Aartje (van Zoest) Bos. Maria was born in Holland where she met and married Jim Bush of Canso who was a member of the Pictou Highlanders and serving there at that time. Married on January 5, 1946 in Holland, she then immigrated to Canada in September of that same year she arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax and began her new life in Nova Scotia. Maria leaves to mourn her daughters Audrey (Robert) O’Leary, Canso and Maria (Richard) Moss, Pennfield, NB; grandchildren Michael, Cheryl, Christopher and Christian; five great-grandchildren. She leaves behind sisters Dirkje “Dik” Post and Jansje Moll; brothers Hendrik Bos Jr. and Arie Bos also numerous nieces and nephews. Maria was predeceased by her husband James M. Bush on April 13, 1984 and sisters Grada, Hendrikje, Wilhelmina, Anna Beerndina and Dirkje; brothers Marcelis, Dirk-Jan, Wouter and Jan. Maria lived a quite life-style but showed kindness to others who were in need. She also passed her love of life and nature on to the family. In keeping with Maria’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A private burial will take place in Fourth Hill Cemetery, January 24, 2009 with Rev. David Wheeler officiating.
