PEMBROKE, James Vernon "Bud"- 78, Canso, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 9, 2007, at home. Born in Canso, he was the son of the late Vernon and Alita (Cole) Pembroke worked at the fish plant before retiring due to ill health. He was a member of the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso He is survived by stepdaughters, Joan (Aubrey) Edwards, Halifax; Mary (Harold) Dort, Sheila (Mel) Rhynold, both of Canso; stepsons, Shirl (Dot) Bennett, Canso; Clarence (Judy) Swaine, Gordon Swaine, both of Halifax; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nephew, John Pembroke, Halifax. He was predeceased by wife, Dorothy; stepdaughter, Ruby Horne; uncle, Clyde Pembroke. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4, 6-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Father Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso.
