Obituary
Please share a memory of Rita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we, the family of the late Rita Lillian Corkum announce her passing on Monday, January 17, 2022, in Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso. Rita was the daughter of the late Arthur and Annie (Casey) DeRabbie of Hazel Hill. Born on Feb 9, 1934, in Yellow Marsh, Guysborough County, she was a home maker most of her life, where she enjoyed baking cookies, cooking, and knitting everything from doll clothes when her girls were little to slippers and dish cloths in recent years. Her eyes always lite up when she could see her great-granddaughter Norah, in person or through FaceTime and loved her grand dog Jaxx who made daily visits to nanas house. Survived by her sons, Douglas (Marilyn) DeRabbie, Michael Corkum, both of Ottawa; and Robert (Catherine) DeRabbie, Hazel Hill; daughters, Sue-Anne (Robert) Snyder, Antigonish; Wendy (Doug) Miller, Charlottetown, PEI; and Charity Corkum (Mike Weaver), Kenzieville; grandchildren, Douglas DeRabbie, Stephen DeRabbie, Alicia MacDonald, Jeremy DeRabbie, Emily Hendsbee, Cameron Miller, Levi Hendsbee and Madison Miller; great-grandchildren, Jack DeRabbie and Norah MacDonald; siblings, brother, Donnie DeRabbie and sister, Betty Peddle; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by daughter, Michelle in infancy; brothers, Billy DeRabbie, John DeRabbie and sister, Mary Ryter. We would like to thank the von, home care, doctors and nursing staff of Eastern Memorial Hospital, who took such great care of mom and family friend Cathy Dorrington, who went above and beyond for mom since her illness. The caring and compassion did not go unnoticed and we will be forever grateful. Mom lived a simple life, wanting for nothing, and she wanted her passing to be the same. Cremation has taken place and at her request, there will be no visitation. Private family funeral at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Eastern Memorial Hospital Foundation or Hazel Hill and Area Community Centre. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com Visitation Information Visitation There will be no visitation Burial Information Burial Date Private family burial
