Obituary
Please share a memory of Maude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we, the Lumsden family, announce the passing of our Mother, Maude Matilda Lumsden, age 92 on May 11th 2009 at Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late James and Lola (Carter) Nickerson. She leaves to mourn daughters Olga (Frank) Berrigan, Sydney River; Carolyn (Carl) Humble, Dartmouth; sons, Barry (Emily), Canso; Douglas (Judy) St. Andrews and David (Anne), New Glasgow; sister Thelma McAloon, Florida and brother Winfred (Diana) Nickerson of Canso. Nanny also leaves behind 19 Grandchildren and 26 Great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald, son Jerome, grandson Blake; brothers, James, Douglas and Jamie.
Our Mother will always be remembered for her wisdom and sharp mind, her tenacity and resilience but most of all for her love of her family, her friends and of Canso town. "The mother is everything - she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness. He who loses his mother loses a pure soul who blesses and guards him constantly." -- Kahlil Gibran (poet)
Our sincere thanks is extended to the Staff of the Adelaide Respite Inn, Waverley, Nova Scotia; the Staff of Eastern Memorial Hospital and to Granddaughters, Nicole and Jenny. The love and care you showered on her during her recent illness was outstanding.
Visitation will be Friday May 15th 7:00 … 9:00 PM in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be held 11:00 AM Saturday May 16th in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso; Father Daniel Boudreau officiating, burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
