MacDonald, Bernard Lorrain … 72, Canso, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at home. Born in Guysborough, he was a son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Fougere) MacDonald. He was known as "The Old Crow", when his grandchildren came along, he was always "Puppy" to them and so many others. He moved with his family to Hazel Hill in 1953. Bernard was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces From 1955 … 1958. In May of 1959, he married Raymonde Filiatrault in Halifax. They later move to Canso. Upon his return to Canso he worked for over 30 years as a bus driver for the Guysborough District and the Strait Regional School Board. Bernie served 33 years on the Canso Volunteer Fire Department and was Deputy Chief for two years. He was a die hard Toronto Maple Leaf fan. In Bernie early years he played soft ball, hockey and curling. One of his favourite pass times was going to Gilligans Island. He was a big man with a big heart and will be missed by his family and many friends also Midnight, who slept with him every night. Bernie is survived by his son Gary (Nancy); daughter Donna; Grandchildren Melissa (James), Gregory (Andrea), Adam and Kyle; great grandchild Lily Rebecca; siblings Claire (Phyllis), John (Theresa), Geraldine, Joseph, Barb (Bernie), Florence (Eddie), Ann (George), Kathy (Joe), Brian (Rachelle) and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Raymonde (Filiatrault). Visitation will be Wednesday 2-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 46 are asked to meet at the funeral home 7:30pm Wednesday. Funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations in memory of Bernard may be made to Star of the Sea building Fund. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com.
