ELMS, Helen Lowesa – 87, Halifax. Passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Northwood Centre, Halifax. Born in Upper Big Tracadie, Guysborough County on March 19, 1933. She was a daughter of the Late Licentiate William John and Sadie (MacPhee) Elms. Helen resided in Toronto for most of her adult life, returning to Nova Scotia almost 20 years ago, following her retirement from Canada Post. Helen’s faith was important to her. She was baptized in and attended Tracadie United Baptist Church in her youth. While living in Toronto, she attended First Baptist Church. After her move to Halifax, she became a member of the New Horizons Baptist Church, formerly Cornwallis Street Baptist Church, where she attended regularly until her illness. She was a quiet, independent person, who treasured time spent with family and always looked forward to weekends and holidays in Antigonish. Christmas was a favourite time for her. Helen is survived by her brother, Russell, Antigonish; great-nieces, Bette Skinner, Halifax, Karen Skinner, Lower Sackville; great-nephew, Tom Skinner (Linda), Timberlea; nieces and nephews, Johnny, Ricky, Betty, Jerry and Peggy, Montreal, Wendy, Brampton, Randy Ashe, Monastery, Marilyn Medley, Dartmouth and several great- great nieces and nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by sisters, Elsie and Bessie; niece, Pat Skinner; brothers, Pastor Norman, John, Bill, Fred, Jim, George and Ralph Howard in infancy. Visitation will be from 12:45 – 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 12 at Tracadie United Baptist Church, Tracadie. A private family funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 12 at Tracadie United Baptist Church, Tracadie. Burial will follow in Sunnyview Cemetery, Tracadie. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to the Tracadie United Baptist Church. In keeping with Covid-19 guidelines, masks are mandatory and social distancing protocols are to be followed. The family would like to thank the staff of Northwood Centre, 6 Centre for the care and kindness shown to Aunt Helen over the past several months. Funeral arrangements are under the care and compassion of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
