LYONS, Elizabeth (Beth), Bernard, Maine and Port Hood, N. S. passed away peacefully Monday, February, 11,2008 at the Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor, Maine. Beth was a daughter of the late Robert and Catherine (Graham) Oliver of Point Tupper.
Beth received a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from St. Francis Xavier University, a Master’s in Education from Antioch New England in New Hampshire and a Leadership Certificate from the Maine Academy of School Leaders. She was an educator in schools in Edmonton, Alberta, Holyoke, Mass. and in Sullivan and Mount Desert Island, Me. Throughout her career she was recognized as caring, passionate and innovative teacher. She loved reading, cooking and entertaining.
She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family, colleagues, former students and her many friends. Beth is survived her husband Marty Lyons; son Daniel, Bernard, Me.; mother-in-law Anna Lyons; sister in law Mary (John) Doyle, Holyoke, Mass.; sisters Carol Oliver, Point Tupper, Carmel (Bob) Forbrigger, Ottawa, On., Isabel (Ken) denHeyer, St. Joseph’s, Phemie (Norm) London, Willowdale, On., Monica Oliver, Port Hawkesbury; brother Graham Oliver (Marjie), Kippens, NL; nieces and nephews Kent, Nel, and Molly denHeyer, Karen (Jonathan) LaBoutillier, Rob (Gillian) Forbrigger, Susan London, Catherine (Matt Wannacott) London, Jessica, Stephanie and Adrienne Oliver, Matthew (Meredith) Doyle and Annie Doyle; grand nieces and nephews Jordyn, Katie, Kyler, LaBoutillier, Jack Forbrigger, Mason and Liam Doyle; special aunt Mary Jane Mac Donald; uncles William and Vincent Graham, all of Judique, John Graham, Halifax and Duncan Graham, Moncton, N.B.; many cousins.
Visitations will take place from 3-7pm Friday, February 15 at the Jorden-Fernald Funeral Home, Somesville, Me. (Route 102, Mount Desert Island). A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, February,16 at 10am at Mount Desert High School. Memorial donations may be made to a cancer research fund or to a charity of choice.
