MURPHY, Nina Theresa — 101, Larry's River, Guysborough Co., died Wednesday December 9, 2009 in Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. Born in Larry's River, Nina was the eldest daughter of the late William and Jennie (Gerrior) Murphy. She served as Postmistress for 42 years retiring in 1973. Nina continued to be employed in the family business, Murphy's General Store until about ten years ago. In 1926, she studied the Morse Code in White Head and received messages for the community. Nina was awarded the Centennial Medal in 1967. She is survived by brother Michael, Cambridge Ma; many nieces and nephews. Nina was predeceased by her brothers Alonzo, John, Raymond and Vincent; sisters Johanna, Ethel and Margaret. Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm in Communities Along the Bay Multi-Use Facility, Bradford Pellerin Room, Larry's River. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11 am in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Larry's River with her nephew Father Douglas Murphy And Father Jonathan Nweke officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Nina's memory to Guysborough Memorial Hospital or St. Peter's parish or charity of one's choice.
