ROSS, Edwin William – River Denys, NS, Age 85, passed away peacefully at the QEII Health Sciences, Halifax, on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Born on March 29, 1935 in Middle River, Victoria County, he was the son of the late Oswell and Catherine (MacLennan) Ross. He is survived by his wife, Mary (MacLean) Ross, daughter, Susan (Randy) MacDonald, Port Hastings, daughter, Faye (Phil) Ubinger, Cary, North Carolina, and son, Stuart (Shawna) Ross, Calgary, Alberta; grandchildren, Cory Fraser, Ottawa, Ontario, Makena and Aidan Ross, Calgary, Alberta, Hannah, Kennedy and Nora Ubinger, Cary, North Carolina and step-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Ryan, Jared and Jenna MacDonald, as well as nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was predeceased by brother, Harold Ross, and brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Helen Ross. Edwin began his working career with Martel Construction, North Sydney, before moving to River Denys in 1964 where he worked with Georgia Pacific Gypsum Corporation before retiring in 2000. In retirement he enjoyed being outdoors and the beauty of nature. He tended his beautiful gardens and spent many hours in his workshop working with wood. He was very inventive and creative. He loved going for drives to Goldbrook, Middle River and Margaree and backroads of Cape Breton in "old Red" (Dodge Ram). He loved his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and served him in many capacities as a Sunday School teacher and Ruling Elder. He was a member and Honourably Retired Ruling Elder of Sovereign Grace Presbyterian Church, River Denys. He enjoyed visiting people and helping out those in the community. He was a very quiet and soft spoken man. In keeping with COVID-19 guidelines, All attendees will be asked to provide their names and telephone number upon arrival at the funeral home and the church. Social distancing protocols are to be followed and masks are mandatory. Visitation will take place at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home in Port Hawkesbury on Wednesday, September 2 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Family flowers only. Funeral will take place in Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middle River, Victoria County, on Thursday, September 3 at 2pm with Rev. Ian Crooks and Rev. Wayne MacLeod officiating, burial to follow in the Middle River Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Victoria County Memorial Hospital Foundation or Sovereign Grace Presbyterian Church. The family would like to especially thank EHS, Dr. Eager and staff at Inverness Memorial Consolidated Hospital, Lifeflight, and the doctors and nurses at the QEII Health Sciences Centre (Unit 5.2 and 7.4) for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time. We would also like to thank Dr. Roland Genge and the staff at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, for their care for so many years.
