MacPHAIL (Gillis), Katherine Florence 89, Upper River Denys, Inverness Co., was peacefully called home by her Lord on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, in "An Cala" Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Skye Glen, Inverness Co., on November 2, 1919, she was a daughter of the late John Archie and Neilena (MacDonald) Gillis. She was a member of Blues Mills Gospel Hall. She is survived by daughters, Anne (Raymond) Chandler, Neilena (David) Smith, both of Upper River Denys; Beckie (Brent) Austen, Whycocomagh; Marion (Bobby) Campbell, Blues Mills; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth MacPhail, Port Hawkesbury; special sister, Beckie Morrison, Whycocomagh; grandchildren, Roger Chandler, Patricia (Chris) MacDonnell, Wayne (Wanda) Chandler, Jamie (Colleen) Smith, Carol Smith, Scott (Darlene) Austen, Stephanie (Mark) MacEachern, Matthew, Bradley, Michael and Brent Campbell; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kirk MacDonnell, Sean Austen, Ethan and Evan Chandler, Bryanna and Joshua Smith; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas R. MacPhail; sons, Darrell and Robert; great-grandson, Noah MacEachern; brother, Malcolm Gillis; sisters, Isabel MacLean, Sadie Robinson, Alexis "Bunny" MacLennan; nieces, Florence MacLeod, Nellie MacKenzie, Isabel Gillis, Debbie MacLennan; nephews, Jackie Morrison and Duncan MacLeod. Visitation will be held in Blues Mills Gospel Hall, Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. and where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Fred Bartlett, David Swan and John Bain officiating.
