Please share a memory of Laura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SWAIN, Laura- It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Laura Swain of Port Hastings and formerly of Point Tupper, who was in her 77th year passed away peacefully at home in her sleep Sunday, August 12, 2007. Laura was the daughter of the late Captain Clarence and Laura (Hall) O’Hara of Isaac’s Harbour.
Laura was a wonderful contributor to her community and deeply cared for her family, her friends and acquaintances. Over the years she opened her house and shared her hospitality and her dinner table with countless guests. She always had stories to tell and memories to share and she freely offered her opinion and quite often a lecture when she felt it was needed. Laura was a member of St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury, and also served on the Board and Session, UCW and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Point Tupper Heritage Association. She was very active with The Girl Guides of Canada, Island View Health Services Auxiliary, Ocean Waves Quilters and the Point Tupper Home and School Association. Laura also enjoyed the odd game of cards.
Laura is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lester Swain; sons John (Margo), Halifax, Lester (Judy), Louisbourg, Ken (Paula), Sydney; daughters Lois (Dwayne Rauw), Halifax, Jean (Dean Hart), Port Hastings, Ann (Mark Johnston), Port Williams; grandchildren Laura and Mike Swain, Sinead O’Rafferty-Swain, Anna and Ava Hart, Luke, Ewan, Oliver, Will and Liam Johnston; sisters Lois MacInnis, Thorold, Ontario, Frances Cullen, Eastern Passage, Ruth O’Hara, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her brother Morris and sisters Marian Houghton and Phyllis Giffin and daughter in law Siobhan O’Rafferty.
