THOMSON, Hazel Mildred (nee Langley) of Vancouver, formerly of Halifax and Port Hawkesbury, died peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2009, in Vancouver at the age of 94. Born in Port Hawkesbury, Hazel was a daughter of the late Arthur and Alexandra (Jameson) Langley. She is lovingly remembered by daughter Glenda Thomson (Stephen Ward) of Madison, Wisconsin; granddaughter Kimberley Thomson-Kerr (Jay Faris), Maui, Hawaii; grandson Andrew Thomson, Halifax; daughter-in-law Ethel Thomson, Halifax; great-grandchildren William and Libby Faris; brother David (Marion) Langley, Port Hawkesbury; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Hazel was predeceased by both her husband Robert (1984) and son Robert (1999); brothers, Arthur Jr., Ellis, Harry, and Martin; and sisters, Mona Tourtellot and Reeta “Susie” Praamsma. Hazel was the eldest of this loving, community-minded family. She and Bob, together with Robert and Glenda, travelled Canada and Europe as an RCAF family. They settled in Halifax in 1960 and Hazel remained there until moving to Vancouver to live with Glenda and Stephen in 2000. A service to honor Hazel's life was held on Thursday, August 6, at Canadian Memorial United Church, Vancouver. Sheelah McGill officiated. A committal service will take place 12 noon on Sunday, August 23, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury, Rev. Sheldon LeGrow officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Sincere thanks for the loving and compassionate care of the staff of Broadway Pentecostal Lodge, Vancouver, and for the support of the good people of Canadian Memorial United Church and extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Port Hawkesbury Food Bank, 514 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury, NS B9A 2M9, if desired.
