MATTHEWS, William Arthur "Billy" - 66, River Denys, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2007, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Timmins, Ont., on January 25, 1941, he was a son of the late Russell and Maude (Rouse) Matthews. He was a member of Forbes United Church, River Denys. Billy was a member of Local 721 Operating Engineers. He worked most of his career as a heavy duty mechanic and the last number of years as a truck driver. Billy was an avid sportsman. He is survived by his loving wife, Mae (MacArthur); daughters, Cathy (Wally Beaton), Port Hood; Donna (Duncan) MacLennan, River Denys; Susan (Gary McKenna), Antigonish; son, Artie (Joanie), West Bay Road; grandchildren, Angie, Derek, Brian, Tanya, Amanda, Kyle; sisters, Christene "Tena" Waters, Blues Mills; Florence Ellis, Big Marsh Road; brothers, Johnny (Sadie), Blues Mills; Gerald (Eileen), Calvin (Glenda), both of Big Marsh Road; sister-in-law, Juanita "Nita" Matthews, Whycocomagh; numerous nieces and nephews. Billy was predeceased by an infant son, sister, Geraldine MacFadyen; brother, Earl; brothers-in-law, Albert "Abbie" Waters, Arthur MacFadyen.
Visitation will be held 2-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Forbes United Church, with Rev. Janet Blois officiating. Burial in Upper River Denys Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations in memory of Billy may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, Upper River Denys Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice.
