Atkins, Genesta Hellena - Age 86 - We regret to announce the passing of our beloved, mother and grandmother, Genesta Hellena Atkins of Cooks Cove, Guysborough, who passed away suddenly in the Moncton City Hospital, Moncton, New Brunswick on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Genesta was born on May 2, 1933 to Margaret (Peart) and Angus Gammon of Torbay, NS. Genesta is survived by her son, William (Bonnie) of Moncton, NB; sister, Elsie Sangster of New Harbour and granddaughters, Mona (Allen Morris), Rowena Atkins, both of Halifax; Linda (Lawrence Ash) of Guysborough; Matthew Wilson of Saint John, NB; Stephen (Hayley) Wilson of Moncton, NB and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kali Ash of Guysborough; Charles Atkins of Halifax; baby boy, Ryelee Winchester of Moncton, NB and many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family. Genesta is predeceased by her husband, James Douglas Atkins; siblings, Evelyn Munroe, Lindsay Webber, Laura Malone, and Shirley Luddington; a daughter in infancy; her son, Charles Angus Atkins and daughter-in-law, Donna Atkins. Genesta worked for over 25 years for Canada Post and to everyone she encountered, she shared her beautiful spirit, good cheer and kindness. Her love for gardening and her vast collection of houseplants was constantly noted and envied. She enjoyed playing cards (and winning), music, particularly anything by John Allan Cameron, traveling throughout Canada, lobster and her church. Her devotion to God was an inspiration to the whole family, especially during this difficult time. She was active in the community and involved with various committees and organizations, such as the garden club, the hospital auxiliary and held various positions with the Anglican Church. There are not enough words to express how much her entire family will forever love and miss her. She was our rock, our anchor and haven in the storm. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21st in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 22nd in Church of the Good Shepherd, Tor Bay with Rev. Sue Channen officiating. Burial at a later date.
