Andrews, Floyd Alexander – 73, St. Andrews, Antigonish County formerly of Half Island Cove, Guys. Co.; passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, January 8, 2011 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Manchester, Guys. Co., December 25, 1937, Floyd was a son of the late Charlie and Violet (Pelly) Andrews.
He worked in various fishing communities in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as a fish cutter/maintenance worker. He also worked locally with various construction and carpentry companies. In his younger years Floyd was an avid hunter and backyard mechanic. Later in life “Poppy” as he was known by his grandkids loved to spend time tinkering in his shed or puttering around the yard usually with one or more of his grandkids in tow. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Paulette (Hendsbee) Andrews; children, David (Karen) Andrews, Phillips Harbour; Bernice Jelleau, Canso and Floyd (Tia) Andrews, Hantsport; brothers, William ”Bill” Andrews, Manassette Lake; Donnie (Cheryl) Andrews, Boylston and Bernie (Patricia) Andrews, Havendale; grandchildren, Nicole (Chris), Antigonish; Jeremy (Lindsay), PEI; Natasha (Patrick), Canso; and Matthew, Canso as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Edith; brother, Jerome and nephew, Arnold.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, a service and burial will take place in St. Vincent de Paul Parish Cemetery, Queensport at a later date. Donations may be made to the family. A special thank you to Dr. Anita Foley, Dr. Barbara Bell and the nursing staff of Guysborough Memorial Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
