Rev. Vincent van Zutphen (Hermanus Maria van Zutphen) died peacefully at home in Colindale, on Monday, February 21, 2022, surrounded by his family who were praying the Rosary. A son of the late John van Zutphen and Elizabeth (van den Hoogen) van Zutphen, he was born on September 9, 1935 in Keldonk, and lived there and in Mariahout, North Brabant, in the Netherlands, before emigrating with his family to Canada in 1951. He continued his high school education in Blenheim, Ontario. He and his family moved to Nova Scotia in 1952 where he graduated from St. Joseph’s Convent high school in Mabou. Fr. Vincent joined the Order of St. Augustine and was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop William Power in 1963, at St. Augustine Monastery, Antigonish. After ordination, he worked in several parishes and taught in a number of universities and high schools both in Canada and the United States. In 1973 he received a Ph.D. in scripture studies from the University of Wurzburg, West Germany. He began his many years of teaching at St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario in 1973. He was incardinated into the Diocese of London. His last years of priestly ministry were spent in parishes in Lucan, Ontario; Margaree, Nova Scotia; and Port Hood. Over the years Fr. Vincent’s love for the Church grew more and more. He consecrated himself to Our Lady in his final years and came to a deep love of the Blessed Sacrament, encouraging others in their devotion through his priestly ministry. Fr. Vincent loved being a priest. Being generously gifted by God, he used his gifts very well to serve God’s people, unflinching in his determination to build up the Church for the glory of God. Fr. Vincent is survived by five brothers, John (Teresa), Ted (Hermina), Ben (Sherry), Joseph (Carmen), Alphonse (Helen); and two sisters, Annie (A.J. Beaton) and Mary Buchanan. He was predeceased by brothers, Henry and Frank; and sisters, Ricky and Rika. Visitation will take place Friday, February 25, 2022 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., and 7-9 p.m. in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Port Hood. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, February 26, 2022, 11 a.m., in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Port Hood, officiated by the Most Rev.
