Please share a memory of Howard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MACKINNON, Howard Irvin - Age 74 of Port Hawkesbury, Inverness County, passed away suddenly but peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at St. Martha’s Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Howard was born in Pleasant Hill on July 6, 1947 as the start of a large family. He met his one true love Marie, and they married in 1969. They had four children, whom he loved unconditionally and brought him great pride. He was a shining example of a family man, and everything he did was for his family.
Howard started working at the local paper mill in 1971 and retired from the Steam Plant as a First-Class Stationary Engineer after 33 years. Besides being an Engineer, Howard was a true jack of all trades – whether it be electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanic, chauffeur or gardening, there was nothing Howard would not do. Many family members and friends benefitted from Howard’s tireless work ethic and handiwork over the years; he was truly a generous soul.
Retirement provided an opportunity to be involved with and enjoy his grandchildren. From the ordinary everyday happenings to the exciting milestones Grandpa was there. Always dependable. Always supportive. He greatly influenced both his children & grandchildren with his strong work ethic and generous spirit. We are all blessed to have had him in our corner going through life.
Howard is survived by his soul mate and wife of fifty-three years, Marie (Forrestall); son, Howard (Charlene), Okotoks, Alberta; daughters, Shelley (Jason), Port Hawkesbury; Nancy (Roy), Port Hawkesbury and Trudy, Lower Sackville; cherished grandchildren, Kalena, Neil, Leo, Myra, Avery and Jenae; brother, Allan, Port Hastings; sisters, Sharon (David Pringle), Newtown; Heather (late Regeant Deschenes), Pleasant Hill; Hazel (Gordon MacLean), Macdale; Anna Port Hastings; sister in-laws, Betty (Eugene MacNeil), Sandra Murray, Frankville and Jane Murray, New Glasgow. Howard was predeceased by his mother and father, Isabell (MacLean) & Stanley MacKinnon; mother & father in-law, Gertie (Cochrane) & Leo Forrestall; sisters, Ann (late Bob Downard) and June MacKinnon.
