John E. ‘Jack’ Baillie
Troy, Inverness County
With sadness, we share the passing of our father, John E. ‘Jack’ Baillie, of Troy, Inverness County, on Sunday, January 30th, 2022.
Born on July 9th, 1936 in River John, to parents Henry and Christine (MacGregor) Baillie; Jack spent his early years on the family farm with his 7 siblings. It was during this time that he fostered an appreciation for gardening and the outdoors, an appreciation he held throughout his life.
After moving to Cape Breton with his wife Janet, Jack worked in the concrete industry for 40 years. Upon retirement, he treasured his time with his grandchildren, traveling with Mom, and chatting with neighbors on his daily walk along the trail. Not one to sit idle, he was happy plowing snow with his tractor, yard work, or tinkering in the garage. In recent years, even with a smaller plot, we were in awe of the yearly harvest from his well-tended garden, which he shared with neighbors.
Left to mourn are his daughters, Sheila (Dannie MacInnis), Glendale; Heather (Darren Graham), Troy; and Gayle (Chris Purcell), Halifax; grandchildren, Jamie and Kevin MacInnis, and Neil and Sophie Purcell; great-grandchildren Jack, Daniel, Cali, and Easton; sister, Marg Robblee, North Wallace, and brother, Ron (Norma) Baillie, River John.
Jack is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Janet (MacLean); brothers, Bill, Kenneth, and Angus Baillie; sisters, Anna (Baillie), Eleanor (Sutherland), and a sister in infancy.
In keeping with Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at the Mountain Road Cemetery, River John, at a later date. Donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Port Hawkesbury Food Bank.
Arrangements are under the care of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
