KAVANAGH, Ralph Joseph – Age 89 of St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2020, in the Highcrest Nursing Home, Sherbrooke. Born in St. Francis Harbour he was a son of the late Tobias and Josephine (Chisholm) Kavanagh.
His friendliness and sense of humour have been greatly enjoyed by all of his friends at the SASHA Apartments in St. Andrew’s where he and Betty have lived for the past two and a half years as well as the amazing staff at the nursing home. Ralph started work at an early age, lobster fishing and cutting pulp wood. He worked as a school bus driver with the Municipality of the District of Guysborough for 35 years. He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in St. Francis Harbour.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty (Hart) Kavanagh; sons, Allan (Sue), Joe (Marites), Wade (Chrissie) and Blaise (Kim); daughter, Shelly (Brian); eight grandchildren, Zachary, Rebecca, Alexandria, Samantha, Elizabeth, Matthew, Darrian and Kassie. He is also survived by brother, Cecil; sister, Edna; sister-in-law, Jessie; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Donald and Leo; grandson, John Martin.

A private family visitation will take place with a graveside service at a later date in St. Francis Harbour. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ralph’s memory may be made to Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to St. Francis of Assisi Parish Cemetery Fund.
