Williams, Iona Arlene - It is with great sadness that we, the family of Iona Arlene Williams of Auld’s Cove, announce her unexpected passing on the morning of Thursday, May 7, 2020. Mom was born on October 28, 1935 in Picton, Ontario to Florence (Hegadorn) Wickett and the late Gordon Wickett. Mom met the love of her life, our Dad Gerald while he was stationed at CFB Picton and they were married on June 6, 1953. Military life led our family from Ontario to New Brunswick and then upon Dad’s retirement from the service back to Dad’s beloved Queensport and then eventually moving to Auld’s Cove. Mom loved being around family and friends, leisurely drives, the yearly washer toss tournament in Bayfield and the many surprise visits from Gary and Kim. She built puzzles, did many word searches and enjoyed listening to old country and gospel music. She loved to attend the monthly breakfasts at the Auld’s Cove Firehall not only for the great food but for the joy of just being able to see the people in her community and enjoy their company. Mom especially enjoyed her Wednesday outing to Seniors, in Mulgrave with her special friend Mary MacAskill. Going to Seniors was something she looked forward to – the group played cards, dressed up for special occasion, enjoyed special luncheons and took part in many special events put on for them—Mom enjoyed every moment of it and would chat endlessly about it. Anna Burton always made sure she looked her best, coming to pick her up to get her hair done and Sharon Burton was always there as a back-up driver. Mom, throughout her life, and usually in partnership with our Dad was involved in the Legion, Kinsmen/Kinettes, Fire Department/Ladies Auxiliary, and snowmobile racing. In the last 17 years since Dad’s passing Mom faced many medical challenges, she rarely complained and accepted these challenges with dignity and grace. Mom leaves to mourn her children: Gail (Allan) Anderson, Rhonda (Albert Green), Randy (Carol Brophy), Sherry (Bernie Chisholm), Sharon (Charlie) Warner, Michael, Gary (Kim). Grandchildren: Blaine, Keri, Jenna, Gordon, Eric, Janessa, Chelsea, Morgan, Jonathan, Caileigh, Mitchell, Daniel, Elin and Emerson. Great-Grandchildren; Kolten, Kasidy, Mackenzie, Alexandria, Maggie, Max, Brooklyn, Keegan, Ethan and Hunter. Mom also leaves to mourn her beloved Mother, Florence (age 103); brothers, Elvin and Gary; sister, Sharon and many nieces and nephews and her extended family of friends from her Seniors Group. We will miss her dearly, but we are comforted in knowing Mom is reunited with our Dad Gerald, our brother Ricky, her loving father Gordon and sister Carol. A celebration of Mom’s life and burial will take place once we are able to gather together again. Memorial donations can be made to the Auld’s Cove Volunteer Fire Department or charity or organization of choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com "A golden heart stopped beating" We will miss you forever and always Mom.
