Obituary
Please share a memory of Judith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kawaja, Judith "Judy" Louise (Proctor) of Port Hawkesbury, Age 72.
On Friday, September 27th, 2019, Judy returned to her Creator and into the arms of her beloved late husband Darryl.
Born on March 28, 1947 in Evanston, Cape Breton, she went to school in Whiteside and Mabou before settling in Port Hawkesbury to raise a family. She was a wife, mother and grandmother who loved wholeheartedly. Judy led a life filled with boundless curiosity for the world and had an ability to find joy and beauty in the small things of life.
She spent years volunteering with organizations including Development and Peace and Grandmothers to Grandmothers. She opened her heart and home to friends from the Coady International Institute and L’Arche Cape Breton. With enthusiasm, she traveled the world and in later years, welcomed travellers into their B&B.
Judy spent her last two years living in Ottawa with her daughter while undergoing treatment and later palliative care. Special thanks to the Maycourt Hospice, especially Dr. Lisa Aldridge and Derek her palliative care nurse. Endless gratitude for the love and support of dear friends near and far.
Judy will live on in the hearts of her children, Nicole, Nancy, John, Cheryl and son-in-law Colin; her twelve grandchildren, Aiden, Ainslie, Rachel, Alison, Hannah, Cameron, Emma, Ryan, Mika, Brooklyn, Maggie Jane, and Neil. She was dearly loved by her surviving brothers, John and Mervin; sisters, Anne and Rose; as well as those predeceased, brothers, Michael, Wallace, Arthur; sisters, Ellen and Loyola; parents, Edna and Wallace.
A wake will be held on Thursday, October 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 4 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating.
