MacDonald, Lydia Anne - Age 72 of West Bay Road, Inverness Co. It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of Lydia Anne MacDonald at home on Friday, January 25, 2019. Lydia was born in Arichat on August 3, 1946; she was a daughter of the late Joseph Frederick and Margaret Rita (Maddox) Morash. Lydia was an extremely dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was employed as a Postmaster with Canada Post for over 35 years; she had previously worked as a telephone operator for Maritime Tel & Tel, as well as a secretary for the local school board and for several local businesses. A founding member of the West Bay Road Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, she also served terms as Secretary and President. Lydia loved to play many types of games--bingo, slots, cribbage, 45's, Atari, Yahtzee, Skip Bo, etc. She loved visiting and talking on the phone with her closest friends. Lydia loved to bake and shared recipes over many a cup of tea with her friends and at countless family events. She did numerous crafts--quilting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, cross-stitch, and Artex painting. She participated in recreational and social activities--snowmobiling, camping, attended dances and concerts, hosted many types of home sales parties, and loved classic country music. She is survived by her husband of nearly 54 years, Peter; children, Douglas (Giselle), Sydney; Glenda (Robert), Port Hawkesbury; Jacquelyn (Stephen), West Bay Road; Bradley, Port Hawkesbury; sisters, Helen Comeau, Kempt Road; Mary (John) Hayes, Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Melissa (Wayne), Danielle (Scott), Christopher (Kendra) and Madison; great-grandchildren, Brody and Blake; several nieces and a nephew; many cousins, and her feline fur-baby, Harley. Lydia was predeceased by her brother, Clarence Morash and sister-in-law, Harriett (Spears) Morash; brother-in-law, Fred Comeau; great-granddaughter, Raelynn Bona; daughter-in-law, Tracey Rideout. Visitation will be held Monday, January 28 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 29 from St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, West Bay Road with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Lydia to Canadian Cancer Society, Strait Richmond Palliative Care or St. Margaret’s Cemetery Fund.
