LANG (MacDermid), Florence Mary. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florence Mary (MacDermid) Lang, age 95, on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, in the Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Florence was born in Baddeck on May 11, 1923. She was the eldest daughter of Murdock and Catherine (MacRae) MacDermid. Florence was educated at the Old Baddeck Academy and on completion of Grade XII; she attended Dalhousie University where she graduated with her B.A. After graduating from Dalhousie she attended Ms. Murphy’s Business School in Halifax. She then moved to Ottawa where she worked with the Department of External Affairs. With her desire to travel, she accepted a job with this department that took her to Cape Town, South Africa. This is where later she met her future husband and after a number of years returned to Canada and settled in Sydney, NS, where she worked several years with the Children’s Aid Society. Florence was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Muir Lang; her sister, Nancy Langley (February 14, 2018); two stepdaughters, Sandra du Trevou (South Africa) and Goldie Berman (Spain). She is survived by her sister, Marjorie MacKenzie and nieces, Margo (Ian) Buchanan; Sylvia (John) Pearo; stepdaughter, Valerie Laurence, London, England; grandniece, Jennie (Willie) Harvey; grandnephew, Eric Nicholson and cousin, Barbara Rhudolf. Florence was a resident of Alderwood Rest Home for the past 10 years. At this time we would like to thank the staff and caregivers for their exceptional care and love that they gave to Florence. In honouring Florence’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Burial at a later date in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Baddeck Forks. Donations in memory of Florence may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
