Mary Ellen Richardson (Minnie) 89 years old, passed away peacefully at Eastern Memorial Hospital, with her daughter Margie by her side. She was a very strong woman and fought a courageous battle. She leaves behind to mourn her daughter, Margie (Terry) from Canso; son Pat (Gayle) from Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Shawn, Shea and Donnie; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. One special niece Ann Marie who’s been like a daughter to her and has always been there for us. Sisters, Anna of Canso; Stella (Joe) of Canso. She was predeceased by her husband Don, mother Mary Casey, father Ernest Casey; brothers, Charlie, Joseph, Patrick. She was known for her volunteer work and in her younger years she was the founder of the Ladies Aux Fire Department where she was president for 15 years. She was also an avid volunteer with the Aux of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Veteran’s Club Branch 46 Canso. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her, especially Canso Seaside Manor where she resided where the staff who took excellent care of her. Thank you to the staff of Eastern Memorial Hospital, you all gave her special care and we thank you for that. A special thank you to Dr. Dobek who gave her excellent care. Your kindness to our mother will never be forgotten, Margie and Pat. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. on Friday, March 16th in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17th from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
