SWAINE, Ross Judson - Age 82, Canso, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2017, in the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough, with family by his side. Ross was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ross lived his life in Canso where he worked as a carpenter as part of RSF Construction. He was very proud to have been asked to oversee the construction of the Sailor's Rest Park in Canso. After retirement Ross enjoyed his days in the workshop and preparing firewood. He loved horses and dogs, and dogs loved him. Ross (Popa) will be always be remembered by his grandchildren for his patience, flannel shirts and whistling a tune. Ross will be sadly missed by his four children, Greta (Gordon), Canso; Jacqueline (Gerry), Enfield; David and Reid, both of Canso; his five grandchildren, Roxanna (Jeff), Waverley; Jane (Chad), Calgary; Alexander (Lydia), Bedford; Katherine (Roger), Enfield; and Lucas, Canso; two great-grandchildren, Allie and Maddie. He is also survived by siblings, Elizabeth (Eric) Foster, Julia (James) Roberts, John (Doris), Florence (Ed) Bond and Norma (Leonard) Dobson; cousin Muriel (Francis) Lyons. Ross was predeceased by Mary, his loving wife of 59 years; his parents, Walter and Mary (Spears); siblings, Clarence, Margaret (Oakley) Feltmate, Frances "Tod" (Lawson) Casey, Douglas (Marion), Evelyn (Bob) Smith, Mabel (Art) Newell and James; grandson, James. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Milford Haven Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care. Visitation will take place 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017, followed by a graveside service at Fourth Hill Cemetery, Canso at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Wheeler officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ross may be made to the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough.
