Obituary
Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BERNARD, Kevin John – Age 50, of We’koqma’q First Nation passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in the QEll Health Sciences Center, VG Site, Halifax. Born in Baddeck, he was a son of the late Noel J. Bernard and Teresa (Francis) Bernard.
Kevin loved being with his family and friends. He found great comfort in helping people when help was needed. He loved to cook, entertain, fish, go biking and visit friends. He was a"Dad" to many children even if they were not his. The most loved Uncle in the family. With over 30 nieces and nephews he took care of each over the years. The fun Uncle, who made the best KD, gave the silliest advice and a smile that would light up a room. A great man is one who leaves others at a loss after he is gone.
Kevin is survived by his daughter, Heather Francis and grandson, Damian; brothers, Dale (Sharon), Pag’tnkek; Barry (Eleanor), Eskasoni; Christopher, Wagmatcook; Gerald and Rodney, We’koqma’q; sisters, Patricia (Neil) Bernard and Pamela (Brian) Toney all of We’Koqma’q; Lindsay, Halifax and Florence Phillips, Maine, USA. Kevin had the honor to be a Godfather to Patricia Prosper and Marcus Poulette. A loved nephew to, Pearl Googoo, Beverly Bernard, Wanda Phillips, Elizabeth Patles and Annie Meserve; uncles, Edward Francis, and Francis Joe Francis. A godchild to Anna Michael and the late Howard Prosper. He had many friends; those who knew him loved him. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Winston. His family will be forever grateful to the Strait Richmond Hospital, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and VG Hospital, Halifax.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, October 5, in the Multi Purpose Building, 160 Reservation Road, We’koqma’q First Nation. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, from Blessed Kateri Parish Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’Koqma’q with Father Vincent Travers officiating. Cremation to follow.
