CASHIN, JEAN ELIZABETH – Age 82, formerly of Canso and Port Felix, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017, in the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Ella (Rogers) Bond of Canso, NS.
She is survived by her sons, James of Port Felix and Gary (Suzanne)of Mulgrave; grandsons, Robert of Port Felix and Gregory (Kim) of Cape George; and one great granddaughter, Rhylin of Cape George. She is also survived by her sisters Gareth Ells (Danny) of Halifax; Shirley Joyce (Curtis) of Sackville; and brothers Joseph Bond (Donna)of Shelburne; Edward Bond (Florence) of New Glasgow and James Bond of British Columbia.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Corneilus (Neil) Cashin and daughter, Angela; sisters, Margaret, Helen, Joan, Pauline and Carol; and brothers, Lloyd, Nelson, Ellsworth and Douglas.
Jean enjoyed the outdoors, spending a lot of time with her husband at their camp back the lakes. She especially loved baking, going for drives and had a big fondness for candy especially suckers. She kept the staff at Milford Haven busy bringing her suckers all day and they eventually gave her the nickname "Lollipop".
Her family would like to thank all the wonderful Home Support workers and nurses that came to our house to help take care of Jean when she lived in Canso. We would also like to thank our good friends and former neighbors, Ray and Judy White in Canso who were such a huge support. It always put a smile on Jean’s face when Judy came for a visit. A very special thank you to the staff and nurses at Milford Haven Home for Special Care who took such great care of Jean for the last two years.
In keeping with Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
Any donations can be made in Jean’s memory to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Society, Nova Scotia Lung Association or the Milford Haven Home for Special Care. Arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
