Obituary
Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
McDonald, Kenneth Angus "Kenny" - Age 78, of Troy, Inverness Co. Passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Montreal on November 8, 1938, he was the son of the late Donald John and Margaret (Robertson) McDonald.
In the late 50’s Ken apprenticed with Canadian Pacific Railway in Montreal to earn his Sheet Metal trade. In 1963 his trade brought him to Cape Breton to work with Nova Scotia Forest Industries, where he remained employed until his retirement in 1997. A city boy, Ken very quickly embraced the joys of rural living and loved his ocean view property on Route 19. Learning to dance square sets to many Scottish fiddlers, Ken also embraced his own (Alexandria, Ontario) Scottish roots. Kenny, as he was known among his fellow workers, will be remembered as a quiet, gentle and well respected man who worked hard to provide for his family. He was active in the Port Hawkesbury Lion’s Club for eighteen years, was a member of the Port Hawkesbury Evergreen Seniors Club and contributed to his church community by serving as member of the Stella Maris Men’s Club, a Eucharistic Minister and as a lector.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Martha (Lavoie); children, Lynn (Bob) Martin, Port Hood; Wayne (Janet Lee), Riverview, NB; David (Sherry), Sydney; Lisa Whitty, Grand Anse; Paul (Cindy), Bedford; sister-in-law, Mary McDonald, Peterborough, Ontario; nephew, Brian (Tina), Aurora, Ontario; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his identical twin, Jim and his brother, Donald.
Visitation to be held Tuesday, September 5th, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 6th, in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Creignish, with Father Hughie D. MacDonald officiating.
