HART, Gertie - Age 86, Canso, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2017, in the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. Born in Phillip’s Harbour, Guys. Co., she was a daughter of the late William and Lillian (DeRabbie) George.
Gertie worked for Mr. Myers and then worked along with her family in the family business, Hart’s Store for many years. Her love was her family and her animals especially her cats.
She will be missed dearly. Surviving are her sons, Sidney Jr. (Janice), Gerry (Michelle), Kenny (Darcie), all of Canso; sister, Muriel Archibald, Melrose; brother, Howard (Eileen) George, Phillips Harbour; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Gertie loved to face time with Weston, she enjoyed every second and he made her smile. Gertie was predeceased by her husband, Sidney; sister, Bertha; brothers, Frank, Eric and Charlie.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26 and 10 a.m. - Noon, Thursday, July 27 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 27 from St. Paul’s United Church, Canso with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in Fourth Hill Cemetery, Canso.
A reception will follow in the Royal Canadian Legion, Canso immediate after the burial.
