MacDougall, Katherine "Kaye" Florence – age 87 years of Port Hawkesbury. With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Katherine Florence MacDougall at home on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 Born on December 2, 1929 in Balmoral, Richmond Co., Kaye was a daughter of the late John Alex and Mabel (MacRae) MacDonnell. In 1948, she married a young veteran, Donald MacDougall and started a family of eight children in Port Hawkesbury. An extraordinary cook, Kaye worked at many local eating establishments and the Point Tupper Industries over her career. Recognized for her bread and pies, she also gifted many young couples with a wedding fruit cake. Talented in many areas, family and friends benefited from her baking, knitting, sewing and advice until her final days. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and the former St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild. Facing many health challenges with a fierce determination, she continued to enjoy family visits, Cape Breton Fiddle music, TV Bingo, the ipad to Face- time family away and sharing news, recipes and knitting patterns with HomeCare ladies. She is survived by her children, Mary Smith (Roy), Port Hawkesbury; Sonny (Linda), James (Marie) all of Cleveland; Hughie (Marie), Port Hawkesbury; John (Hughina), West Bay Road; Angus (Paula) Queensville ; Margaret Ann Lagace, Rochester, NH; twenty-two grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters, Isabel McKenna, Ethel (Paul) Gartlan, Anne (Barry) Reid; brothers, Ralph and Duncan ( Nancy). Besides her parents Kaye was predeceased by her husband, Donald; son, John Alexander in infancy; brothers, Jim, Dan, John, Edward; sisters, Elsie, Elizabeth and Mary. Special thanks to Sheila Latimer, The Inverness County Support Staff, Dr. Paul Pluta, Dr. Jim Collins, Dr. Ron McCormick, Dr. Philip Cooper, Nancy Cameron, Strait Richmond Hospital Staff, and Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacy staff for the care and support that Kaye received over the years. In keeping with Kaye’s final wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 26, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial in St. Joseph parish Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Kaye to the Regional Occupation Centre "ROC Centre", Port Hawkesbury. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
