Donald William Borden "Donnie" of Antigonish, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the age of 71.
Originally of Lincolnville N.S Donald was the son of the late Elsie (Borden) Morris and Harold Dorrington. Donald was an amazing talent. Having the ability to play any instrument that was placed in his hands. He was a musician and performed in many bands throughout the years being the youngest original member of ‘The abc Band’ as a drummer in his preteen and adolescent years and having appeared with the group on Don Messer’s Jubilee show. More recently he the guitarist for the gospel group ‘The Sounds of Hope’. Donnie was a finishing carpenter by trade, very gifted with artistic abilities and most fond of drawing blueprints and sketches of homes or of his next wooden creation; be it a table or a set of cabinets. He had a sharp eye for interior decorating and was an excellent cook and baker. Donnie enjoyed accompanying his friends at Greenwold Manor where he resided, often playing the guitar for entertainment. Donnie will be remembered for his very classy appearance and demeanor. Being quite fond of his many designer suits which he sported daily and was a lover of his favorite vehicle, the Cadillac. Hence his nick name "Mr. Caddy".
Donald is survived by his former wife Shirley Borden; Sydney Children Christine MacKintosh (Mark) (New Brunswick), Donald Borden (Sydney N.S) David Borden (Halifax), Brian Borden (Ariel) Sydney N.S, Donovan Borden (Halifax), Ralph Gero (Monastery), Elizabeth Borden (Dartmouth), Amber Borden(Toronto). Sister Debbie Reddick Lincolnville, Brothers Lawrence Borden (Sydney) and Kenneth Jones (Judy) Havre Boucher. 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Besides his parents Donald was predeceased by his Daughter Denise Borden and his Brother Theodore Borden.
Special thanks to Dr. Snow and staff at QEll HSC (VG site) during his battle, as well as Dr. Cooper and staff at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital for their kindness and care in his final days.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, from 11 am to 2 pm at Tracadie United Baptist Church, Highway #16 Monastery with a celebration of life to follow with Deacon Alonzo Reddick officiating. Burial to follow at Sunnyview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Donald’s name to the family or a charity of one's choice.
