BOND (Hurst), Margaret Alberta - Age 83, Canso. It is with sadness and sorrow we announce the passing of our dear mother, Bertha on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, died peacefully at home with loved ones. Born on January 2, 1934, in Canso she was a daughter of the late Percy and Cora (Gurney) Hurst. She is survived by her children, Frances (Roger), Vancouver Island; Thelma (Russell), Canso; Percy (Rhonda), Canso; Billy (Leona), Canso; her K-9 friend Elan (Cuddles), grandchildren, Tanya, Melissa; great-grandchildren, Pepper Lyn, Fin; sisters, Frances Jackson, Jean Hurst. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Allen; son, Leo Paul; grandson, Roger Jr; sisters, Thelma, Viola, Patricia; brother, Percy; nephew, Bernie Jackson. She will be dearly missed by all her nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Bertha lived her life for her children they were the most important part of her life. She will always be remembered for the love of playing bingo, playing cards, flea markets, smelt fishing and keeping watch of the local fishermen just to name a few. Her family would like to extend many heartfelt thanks to the staff of Eastern Memorial Hospital, Dr. Cathy, Dr. Sullivan, continuing care nurse Bessie Dobson and the home support workers, paramedics and fire department for the quick response, and to anyone that we may have missed. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday March 14, 2017 at the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial at a later date. Reception to follow after the service at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 46 in Canso. Memorial donations may be made to a Royal Canadian Legion Branch 46 in Canso for the upkeep of the Cenotaph.
