BIRD, Frederick Norman Arthur "Fred" – Age 59, Melford, Inverness Co., passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 27, 2015, in Hamilton, N.Y. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Frederick Duncan and Doris Evelyn (Cole) Bird.
Fred worked for 32 years as a Cable Repairman with Maritime Tel. & Tel. / Bell Aliant. After retirement Fred worked 2 years for Seaside Communications and 2 years with Tronos Communications. Fred enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, racing, hunting, fishing and tuning engines up to make them go faster. He was a member of Sircom Lodge # 66, Whycocomagh. Fred passed away suddenly while attending snowmobile grass racing in the state of NY.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Lorna (Purdy); daughters, Jackie (Dwight Newbury) and granddaughters, Heidi and Leah, Clarenville, NL; Katie Goodwin (Robin) and grandson, Owen, Fort McMurray, AB; sister, Heather (Frank) MacDonald, Bedford; and several nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Beverley (Bernard) Dauphinee.
Visitation will take place from 2-9 p.m with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be 11 a.m Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Forbes United Church, River Denys, with Karen Ross officiating, reception to follow. Family flowers only please.
