BOWIE, John Basil Sylvester – 88, Tracadie, Antigonish Co., passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014, in the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. Born in Havendale, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Ernest and Mary Ellen (Dunphy) Bowie.
John was a school bus driver for many years and drove for Zink’s Taxi in Antigonish for 20 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, Tracadie.
Surviving are his daughter, Theresa (Kevin) O’Connor, North Riverside; sons, John, Barrie Ont; Donald, North Riverside; Garnet (Kendra), Havre Boucher; sisters, Kay Cleary, Halifax; Marjorie Armsworthy, Antigonish; grandchildren, Reggie, Deidra, Laycee, Caleb, Kira and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Gavin, Emmerson, Cian and Kennan. He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude (Feltmate); son, Basil James; brothers, Bill, Kenneth, Leo; sisters, Margaret, Edith, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Agatha.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday from St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Tracadie with Father John Barry officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, or to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
