Butts, Jennifer Lynn – 19, Port Hawkesbury, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in the IWK Healthcare Centre, Halifax. Jennifer was born March 10, 1991 in Antigonish, the daughter of Bill and Susan (Herman) Butts. She graduated from Strait Area Education and Recreation Centre “SAERC” in 2009, where she was awarded many awards and recognitions for achieving the highest grades in many of her classes. She was attending Dalhousie University in the Science program with the aspiration of becoming a Doctor. Jennifer was very active in the community, volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society and Children’s Wish Foundation. The Canadian Cancer Society awarded her the National Medal of Courage and the Youth Award in 2009. The highlight of each summer was volunteering at Camp Goodtime as a counselor. She loved to dance, curl, and go to Port Hood Beach, shop and travel. Jennifer is survived by her parents, Susan and Bill Butts, brother, Michael; she also leaves her maternal grandmother, Phyllis Herman, Halifax and her paternal grandparents, Dave and Annabel Butts, Port Hawkesbury also several aunts, uncles and cousins, and best friends, Lauren Gillis, Carly MacCuspic, Shelley MacDonald and all the wonderful staff of the IWK. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. The celebration of Jennifer’s life will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in St. Mark's United Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Rev. Sheldon LeGrow officiating. The family asks that you consider memorial donations in memory of Jennifer may be made to Camp Brigadoon, Children’s Wish Foundation, IWK Hematology/Oncology Family Fund or the Jennifer Butts Memorial Scholarship Fund at SAERC.
