BURKE, Alexander Joseph - 87, River Bourgeois, died Monday, April 23, 2007, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in River Bourgeois, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Joseph P. and Clara (Landry) Burke.
Alex was a retired painter and sandblaster employed with Stora Enso. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. In his earlier years he worked on the lake boats for 18 years. Surviving are daughter, Claudette (Joe) King, Evanston; daughter-in-law, Claire Burke, River Bourgeois; son, Mark (Marie), River Bourgeois; sisters, Margaret Smith, Mary, Irene MacLaughlin, all of Halifax; Anna (Albert) Sampson, Guelph, Ont.; Emily (Fred) Harding, Ottawa; Theresa (Leo) Landry, River Bourgeois; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Burke and Annie (Cyril) Landry, both of River Bourgeois; brothers, Vitus (Irene), Northwood Manor, Halifax; Raymond (Mildred), Ernest, John (Alma), Roderick (Margaret), all of River Bourgeois; Richard (Lisa), Petawawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Tony (Jen), Port Coquitlam, B.C.; Melissa, Nanaimo, B.C.; Mark Jr. (Viola), Mitchell (Mindy), Andy, Melanie and Lynn, all of River Bourgeois; Patrick and Alyson King, Evanston; great-grandsons, Dylan and Colton; godchild, Russell Burke. He was predeceased by his wife, Amelda (Burke); son, Gus; a son and a daughter in infancy; brothers, Fred, Edward and Anthony.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, River Bourgeois, Father Everett MacDow officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to give special thanks to Alex's caregivers "the girls".
