Obituary
Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Baldwin, Philip W. - 68, Havre Boucher.
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Phil on Thursday March 23, 2006 at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, September 28th, 1937, he was the son of the late David and Pauline (Lynk) Baldwin. He is survived by his wife Susan (Guitard) Baldwin, his children, David (Ann), Yarmouth; Patricia (Francis) O'Neil, Linwood; Phillip Jr. (Faye), Frankville; Angela Baldwin, Havre Boucher; Michael, Halifax; and five grandchildren, Clayton, Bobby, Tyler, Shana, and Ryan. He also leaves his sister Carrie Mae (Gordon) Kea, Cannington, Ontario; sister-in-law, Mora, Port Hawesbury; Aunt Beatrice MacDonald, New Waterford; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, his brother Fred, and infant sister Hughena also predeceased him.
As a teenager he set off for British Columbia, to work on the pipelines. It
was there that he began his trade as a welder. He returned to Cape Breton
with the expansion of Stora Forest Industries where he worked for thirty-five years. He was welding supervisor for many of those years. Phil lived in Mulgrave for twenty years, where he was a member of the St. Lawrence Parish, a member of the Kinsmen Club, Chairman of the Mulgrave Housing Commission, President of the Mulgrave area branch of the Nova Scotia Wildlife Federation, and community volunteer.
Phil was a loving father who enjoyed cooking for his family. He loved the
outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He knew the rivers
and lakes of Guysborough County like the back of his hand. It was said that
if he were a contestant on 'Survivor', he would have been the only one to
gain weight.
Visitation will take place 2-4pm and 7-9pm Saturday March 25th, 2006, at St.
Paul's Parish Center, Havre Boucher. A funeral service will be held 2pm Sunday
March 26th in St. Paul's Church, Rev. Robert McNeil officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to thank the team of doctors and nurses from both the
QE11 in Halifax, and St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish for their
care and support.
Donations in Philip's memory may be made to the Lymphoma Foundation Canada and IWK Health Centre. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
