HENDSBEE, Herman Leland – Age 83, Frankville, Antigonish Co., passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Half Island Cove, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Wilfred and Maisie (Gammon) Hendsbee.
Herman served with the Canadian Armed Forces Black Watch. He worked as a linesman with NS Power and also worked at Anderson’s Lobster Pound in Auld’s Cove. He loved collecting scrap and telling stories. He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a faithful fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Surviving are his daughters, Carol Stevenson, Ont; Lillian Sampson, Frankville; Sharon (Jim) Pelrine, Frankville; grandchildren, Joanne Munroe, Melissa Hadley, Joey Munroe, Terry Hendsbee; special great-grandchildren, Haylan and Ryker Hendsbee who always managed to put a sparkle in grampie’s eye; step sister, Sadie; step brother, Tom; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diana Faye Ronalds; brothers, Artie and Harold; sister, Marlene Murray; step mother, Violet (Armsworthy) Hendsbee; step sister, Mamie Hendsbee.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from Port Hawkesbury Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan London officiating. Burial at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to 3rd Floor GARU of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
