Corbett, Sharon Veronica – Port Hawkesbury. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Sharon Corbett announces her passing on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Cleveland, Cape Breton on November 27, 1946, she is a daughter of the late Robert "Bob" and Veronica (Steele) Morgan. Sharon is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kevin; children, Michele "Shelley" (Michael) Heighton, Calgary, AB and Glenn, Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Brent Heighton, Calgary, AB and Avery Corbett, Port Hawkesbury. Sharon spent many years as a wonderful homemaker and went back to school, while raising her children, and became a Master hairdresser for many years in Port Hawkesbury. She also spent many years caring for children. Sharon was a tireless fundraiser for several charities, most notably the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, and the Kidney Foundation. She was a skilled artist and could put her hand to anything artistic. Sharon’s skills at baking and cooking were surpassed only by the joy she felt when someone enjoyed or needed one of her meals or baked goods. Sharon played a sterling shortstop for the Cleveland Go-Getters back in the day. Sharon always enjoyed a cup of tea, a good laugh, visits with family and friends, a variety of music, and a lively debate. She showed immense pride in her children and their accomplishments, no matter how minor. Sharon had a special place in her heart for her grand-nephew Andrew S, whom she loved and adored as if he was her own grandchild. Above all else, Sharon loved her two grandchildren, Brent and Avery. They were, in her mind, by far her greatest achievement. Sharon is also survived by brothers, Winston (Paddy), Taunton, Mass.; John, Cleveland; Roddie (Shirley), Port Hawkesbury; and by sister, Lee (Jim) Passmore, Bridgewater. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Florence, Cleveland; Kaye, Cleveland and Emily, Bedford. Sharon was predeceased by brothers, Gerald, Robert, A.J., Walter, and sister, Judy Dwyer. Sharon’s family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care provided by the Paramedics of EHS, and the entire staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital for providing her with dignified care. We are also grateful for the spiritual care provided by Father Conrad Edwards. Thank you to so many friends and neighbors for their kindness and support. Visitation will be held Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery.
