Hendsbee, James Leo- 87, Half Island Cove, Guys. Co. passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital, Guysborough. Born in Half Island Cove, he was a son of the late Stanley and Elizabeth (England) Hendsbee.
He served during World War II with the Seafourth Highlanders in Italy, France, Germany and Holland. After returning from the war, he came back to Half Island Cove where he lobster fished with his father. He then went on to work for Acadia Fisheries in Mulgrave, and then back home to the Canso plant, where he retired. He was a member of Half Island Cove Baptist Church. He was also in the Chedabucto Dart League for many years, which he enjoyed greatly. He was a family oriented man loved by all.
James is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Victor) Sangster, Horton’s Cove; Eileen (Kenny) Ehler, Peasbrook; Pauline (Oren) Rhynold, Phillip’s Harbour; Maxine (Mike) Feltmate, Hazel Hill; son, John (Madonna), Half Island Cove; son-in-law, Jerry Armsworthy, Half Island Cove; sisters, Marcella Fincaryk, Vancouver; Mavis (Skip) McLaughlin, Maine, USA; brother, Guy Hendsbee, Halifax; brothers-in-law, Lindsey Hendsbee, Prince Edward Island, and Hartley Hendsbee, Half Island Cove; grandchildren, Kirk, Jimmy, Shelly, Cathy, Christa, Darcy, Deanna, Rachel, Jamie, Anita, Chelsie, Melissa and Michael; 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, 1 step-granddaughter and 1 step-great-great-grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, Annie Isabel (Hendsbee) Hendsbee, daughter, Phyllis Armsworthy, brother, Ainsley Hendsbee, sisters, Reta, Theresa and Tena.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Half Island Cove Baptist Church and from where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, with Rev. David Wheeler officiating. A service will be held at the same time for James‘s daughter, Phyllis Armsworthy who passed away February 11, 2011.
Burial in Bayveiw Cemetery, Half Island Cove. Family flowers only please.
